Sheridan Memorial Hospital’s Education Department offers various resources to the community and includes an assortment of topics, including the American Heart Association (AHA) and Non-AHA courses. These offerings are an opportunity for the public to either obtain or retain required certifications. Classes are offered throughout the year by our team of enthusiastic, highly trained, certified educators.

American Heart Association (AHA) Courses
Basic Life Support (BLS) Renewal
Heartcode BLS skills check out: Skills check out portion of BLS after completing the online course. This option takes 1 hour.
Go to www.elearning.heart.org to purchase and complete the online course (current cost is $31.00). Bring printed completion certificate to skills check-out. Contact the education office to see available time slots for skills check out. Cost for check-out is $20.00.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Heartcode ACLS skills check out– Skills check out portion of ACLS after completing the online course. This option takes approximately 2 hours.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Non-AHA Courses
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
The Neonatal Resuscitation Program course conveys an evidence-based approach to the care of the newborn at birth and facilitates effective team-based care for healthcare professionals who care for newborns at the time of delivery. NRP utilizes a blended learning approach, including online testing, online case-based simulations, and hands-on case-based simulation/debriefing that focus on critical leadership, communication, and team-work skills (www.aap.org).
This course is a blended learning course that requires Part 1 to be completed prior to an instructor-led event (part 2), which is 3-4 hours of hands-on skills practice and simulation.

Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
TNCC is a 2-day course designed to provide core-level trauma knowledge and psychomotor skills associated with the delivery of professional nursing care to the trauma patient. Participants must pass a written exam with 80% as well as three skills testing stations.

Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)
ENPC educates registered nurses caring for acutely ill and injured children. The course teaches participants to recognize the ill or injured child and identify significant yet subtle changes in the less acute child. This course teaches all aspects of pediatric emergency nursing, including but not limited to pediatric trauma and resuscitation.
